Fight Preview

This weekend from the OVO Arena in London, England, the WBA flyweight champion Artem Dalakian defends his title against David Jimenez. The main event features Artur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde. Dalakian, who is making his sixth defense of his title, is a capable technician who is largely unknown to casual fans. Jimenez, ever one to seek out the underdog role, is looking to pull off another upset in the biggest fight of his career.

Since winning the WBA championship in 2018, Dalakian has gone unnoticed despite his undefeated 21-0 record and 15 knockouts. The Ukrainian has successfully defended his title five times since he won it from Brian Viloria and brought it back home. He hasn’t fought professionally since beating Luis Concepcion in 2021, when the war was still going on. His technique, which involves working behind constant movement and firing combinations at odd angles, is reminiscent of that of Vasyl Lomachenko.

Let’s check the latest picks, Boxing news, stats and Boxing expert picks for Artem Dalakian vs David Jimenez. We’ve plenty of Boxing predictions for you to consider.

He’s the more seasoned pro, having fought for an average of 6.28 rounds over the course of his career as opposed to the challenger’s 2. Only three of his fights since June 2019 have taken place, but four of his last five opponents have been knocked out. In particular for a 35-year-old flyweight who hasn’t fought in over a year, ring rust will be a problem.

Jimenez enters the fight with a perfect 12-0 record and a 16-1 underdog upset win over Ricardo Sandoval via majority decision last summer. The fight wasn’t pretty, but Jimenez was able to put enough pressure on his opponent and score a knockdown near the end to earn a shot at the title. The spoiler from Costa Rica will be making only his second trip abroad, but he is being given the benefit of the doubt against the veteran champion.

Considering Jimenez is a hard-hitting southpaw who can create his own angles, it is surprising that he is such a narrow underdog against a legitimate world champion after being an afterthought against a rising prospect. The Ukrainian tends to get carried away, causing him to absorb punches he doesn’t see, so it isn’t completely out of the question that he can pull off the upset.
