On October 15th David Haney will defend his lightweight titles against George Kambosos Jr. Kambosos will get his chance at redemption and will seek the WBA (super), WBC, IBF, WBO, WBO and The Ring titles currently held by his rival Devin Haney. Haney turned pro at age 17 after winning seven national titles. Haney won the WBC junior lightweight title in 2017 and the interim WBC lightweight title in 2019 against Antonio Moran. Haney defended the belt four times before facing Kambosos in June.
Two-time Australian National Championship silver medalist George Kambosos made his pro debut at age 19. Kambosos defeated Mickey Bey and Lee Selby in 2019 and 2020. Kambosos takes on Teofimo Lopez in November 2021 for the WBA, IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles.
When these two warriors met, Haney outlanded Kambosos by landing 147 punches to Kambosos’ 100. Haney used his jab heavily, while Kambosos was unable to counter his punches. “I’m looking forward to October 16 at Rod Laver Arena, and that’s where I’m going to do my talking. Inside the ring,” Kambosos declared.
