Jaime Munguia vs Jimmy Kelly: Odds & Preview 6/11/2022

June 10, 2022

Jaime Munguia deserves a title fight! Jaime Munguia deserves to be fighting the best super middleweight fighters in the weight class! Those are all things that Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia and his camp continuously argue, especially if you consider Munguia’s record and previous championship experience when fighting at 154 pounds. For now, though, he will have to deal with facing off against a very respectable rival, even while not being a big-name in the division in Jimmy Kelly Saturday night in Anaheim. As the Mexican super middleweight star pushes to have better opponents and higher-ranking fights, will Kelly be enough of a fighter to stop him in his ways and bring the hype down?

Fight Preview

What’s there not to like about the WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Jaime Munguia. Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, Munguia is yet another example of the boxing excellence that runs through Mexico as his 39-0 record with 31 knockouts works as his best calling card as to why he continues to ask for bigger fights, title opportunities and a chance at true stardom. Ever since turning pro in 2013 Munguia apparently has not ever stopped to take a second to rest in his quest to becoming one of the best Mexican boxers in the boxing landscape in actuality. While his style of fighting has shown that when it comes to defense Munguia still needs some work to become an absolute boxing machine, when it comes to offense, this man is not afraid of taking the fight to anybody at any time, something that will surely give him an edge against Kelly.

With a knockout ratio of almost 80% there’s a lot to be said about the true firepower that Munguia can carry in his punches, with his record again speaking volumes of how his evolution as a pro fighter, now moving up to super middleweight has taken him to become one of the best, and most beloved fighters by fans right now. It’s very clear that Munguia is stepping into this fight as the overwhelming favorite, as he waits for a chance to fight the WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo in a fight that promises to be a show-stopping bout when it finally happens.

For Manchester fighter Jimmy Kelly, this fight against Munguia feels like more of a struggle case for him than a chance to truly show his skills. If honesty is to be had, while Kelly has a very good 26-2 record with 10 knockouts, if you look at his opponents in the past you’ll see that most of his wins came against opponents with losing records. While Kelly does also bring championship experience of his own to the fight, just like Munguia, the differences between both fighters is almost abysmal at points. He doesn’t really have that much of a punching power and what could help him might be his speed on his feet to avoid punches, but besides that, this is Kelly’s fight to lose from anywhere you see it.

So expect that, a loss for Kelly and another win for Munguia as he continues on his path to a stellar championship bout against Charlo.
