Julio Cesar Martinez vs Ronald Batista: Picks & Preview 05/05/2023

Game Preview

Fight Preview

On Saturday, May 6th, the WBC Flyweight Champion Julio Cesar Martinez from Mexico will defend his title against Panama’s Ronal Batista in a 12-round fight. The bout is part of the undercard for the Canelo Alvarez vs John Ryder showdown. Martinez’s last fight was in December, where he won by majority decision against Samuel Carmona. Meanwhile, Batista defeated Jose Cordero by stoppage in the same month.

Martinez won his flyweight belt in December 2019 by stopping Cristofer Rosales in the ninth round. He then defended his title against Jay Harris in a unanimous decision three months later, followed by two stoppages against Moises Calleros and Joel Cordova. However, his fight against McWilliams Arroyo in November 2021 was ruled a no-contest due to an accidental headbutt. In March 2023, Martinez moved up in weight to fight Roman Gonzalez, but he was too heavy and was defeated, unable to win the vacant WBC Diamond Super Flyweight Title. Martinez’s record is now 19-2 with 14 knockouts.

Batista, on the other hand, has a record of 15-2 with 9 knockouts. He is relatively unknown and has only fought once outside of Panama. He won the IBA Super Flyweight Title in 2018, but his bid for the vacant WBA Gold World Super Flyweight Title in December 2019 was unsuccessful.

Let’s check the latest picks, Boxing news, stats and Boxing expert picks for Julio Cesar Martinez vs Ronald Batista. We’ve plenty of Boxing predictions for you to consider.

Martinez will need to be at his best to defeat Batista and not underestimate him, particularly after his recent defeat to Roman Gonzalez. However, with his power and experience, Martinez should come out on top in the fight.

This fight will be the prelude to the expected fight between Canelo and Ryder, however, we can not underestimate this fight that promises to be one of the most disputed fights of the year. Both fighters have only two defeats in their careers and this fight could put one more on either fighter’s record. Although the betting odds are very close, the oddsmakers have Julio Cesar Martinez as the favorite.
