On Saturday, Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner will clash in a super featherweight unification fight as part of the Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall bout at O2 Stadium in London. Mayer currently holds the WBO and IBF belts, while Baumgardner is the proud holder of the WBC title.
The showdown promises to be the biggest fight of both women’s careers, in terms of dollars earned and most likely viewership. Mayer has a record of (17-0) with 5 knockouts and a growing popularity rating due to her success in the ring and, it must be said, her physical appearance.
Although Mayer has stepped into the ring with several quality female fighters, Baumgardner will be a next level challenge for the Californian, who now resides in Colorado.

The two women have been at each other’s throats on social media for about half a year leading up to the bout. The unease between the two contenders was evident at media day, where the two had a heated exchange of words that no doubt whetted the appetites of fight fans around the world.
Baumgardner has vowed to knock Mayer out, and Mayer has vowed to take the gold from Baumgardner. While we’ve seen a lot of fighters talk trash to give their fight more hype, the animosity between Mayer and Baumgardner doesn’t seem fake at all.
Since turning pro, Mayer has had it pretty easy from fight to fight, usually dominating his opponents with his ring generalship and physical talent. Her long amateur career (87 fights) has served her well in the professional ranks.
That said, Baumgardner, while lacking Mayer’s amateur pedigree (only ten fights before turning pro), her 54% knockout average overpowers Mayer’s 29%, but one could reasonably argue that Mayer has generally faced tougher competition.
