Davis vs Martin Fight Preview
At the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this Saturday night, Gervonta “Tank” Davis will face Frank Martin in the main event on top of a packed undercard. Davis needs to find more gear to hold onto his WBA “regular” lightweight belt. Keep reading more articles like this for more boxing analysis.
Gervonta Davis Analysis: He has 27 KOs in 29 fights
For his sixth defense of the WBA lightweight title, Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is expected to start slowly at times and give his opponents a false sense of security with his relative inactivity. He is, however, searching for a chance to unleash the deadly left hand that none of his opponents have been able to withstand while he determines his range and observes his opponent’s habits. The 29-year-old native of Baltimore executed this strategy flawlessly against Garcia, whose durability and confidence before the bout seemed unwavering. However, Garcia was unsteady the rest of the fight and barely managed to beat the count after Davis down him with a left punch in the second round.
Frank Martin Analysis: He has a strong right jab
Martin, on the other hand (18-0, 12 KOs), is more of a ring craftsman who uses accuracy and volume to dominate contests. The 29-year-old native of Detroit finds his range and keeps his opponents off balance with a sharp right jab. But Martin can also utilize his right hand as a power punch when he wants to load up on a combo, and he has taken down a lot of opponents with it. Nevertheless, Martin has only managed two stoppages in his last five wins, and it is unlikely that he would try to outlast the deadly Davis, who is probably trying to get closer.
