Prediction and Analysis: Ioka vs Martinez July 7, 2024

Ioka vs Martinez Fight Preview

On Sunday, Kazuto Ioka will finally fight for the title unification, taking on IBF super-flyweight champion Fernando Martinez. This article contains the most in depth boxing analysis out there.

Kazuto Ioka Analysis: He’s looking for the title unification

Ioka (31-2-1) is the winner of four divisions. 2011 saw him win the WBC minimum weight championship; in 2012, he won the WBA title. The 35-year-old made weight moves, winning the WBA flyweight title in 2015 and the WBA light flyweight title on New Year’s Eve in 2012. After defeating Aston Palicte to win the WBO super flyweight title, he has held the gold medal in the division since 2019. Ioka, who has successfully defended the title eight times—including a memorable and contentious 1-0-1 series victory over Joshua Franco—looks to unite the division, establish himself as the best fighter in Japan, and then immediately focus on the recently crowned WBC and Ring champion Jesse Rodriguez.

Fernando Martinez Analysis: He’s never lost a fight

Martinez, a 32-year-old full of energy, has a perfect 16-0 record with 9 Ko’s. After turning pro in 2017, he has now boxed 103 rounds. With a current knockout percentage of 56.3%, he possesses respectable fist power, but he has lost three of his past five bouts. Until he met Jerwin Ancajas in February 2022 and the latter pulled off an upset in his first fight in America, the majority of his opponents were essentially unknowns. Then, in their rematch, which took place in the USA, he repeated the feat. Martinez had a successful amateur career that included fights in the World Series of Boxing and victories over Andrew Moloney. He has also won the vacant WBC Silver Super Flyweight Title and the Argentina FAB Super Flyweight Title since going pro.
