Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 Fight Preview

Former undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor will square up against fiery opponent Jack Catterall in a much-anticipated rematch on May 25 at Leeds’ First Direct Arena between Scotland and England. Continue to read more articles like this for more boxing analysis.

Josh Taylor Analysis: He has 13 KOs in his career

With a 19-1 (13 KO) professional record, Josh Taylor was the undisputed super-lightweight world champion at one point. When Taylor competed in the global Boxing Super Series in 2019, he achieved his first global championship. In May of that year, he defeated Ivan Baranchyk by unanimous decision to win the IBF super-lightweight title in the semi-finals. The 33-year-old Scotsman then defeated Regis Prograis by majority decision in the October final to capture the IBF, WBA (Super), and Ring Magazine titles. In his lone fight of 2020, Taylor successfully defended the belts by defeating Apinun Khongsong in the first frame. In his lone fight of 2021, he unfitted the category.

Jack Catterall Analysis: Only lost once

With a 28-1 professional record going into this match, 13 of Jack Catterall’s victories have come via knockout. Along the way, Catterall won a number of minor titles. In October 2018, he defeated Ohara Davies by unanimous decision. He won the WBO intercontinental super-lightweight title for the third time with that victory, but he chose not to challenge for it again. Rather, he defeated Oscar Amador via third-round knockout before winning a few bouts on points to advance his career. In November 2019, he prevailed over Timo Schwarzkopf via unanimous decision, and a year later, he defeated Abderrazak Houya on points in a 10-round bout. With those wins, Catterall was given a chance to challenge for the undisputed super-lightweight title, and in that match, he gave his best performance yet.
