Guido Vianello Analysis: Looking to bounce back from a defeat
Despite having two losses on his record, Guido Vianello (12-2-1) proved in his most recent bout versus Efe Ajagba that he is still a big threat in the ring. The “Gladiator” was viewed by many as a tough but limited journeyman who could challenge other potential title contenders after he suffered a first-round loss to Jonathan Rice early in the previous year, following a majority decision draw versus Kingsley Ibeh. The loss was caused by an unfortunate cut for Vianello. To end the second round, Vianello, however, unleashed a massive overhand right that would have probably given the Italian heavyweight the victory by knockout if it had struck any earlier. Vianello outlanded Ajagba during the bout, despite Ajagba’s ability to survive and make some modifications in the middle of the battle.
Arslanbek Makhmudov Analysis: 94.7% KO percentage
After suffering his sole career loss to Agit Kabayel late in the previous year, a setback that has aged somewhat better given Kabayel went on to beat the highly anticipated Frank Sanchez in May via stoppage, Makhmudov (19-1-0) rebounded with a second-round knockout of Miljan Rovcanin back in May. With eighteen consecutive wins to start his career, seven of which came via knockout, many had Russia’s 6’6″ tank Arslanbek Makhmudov under their sights as a possible contender for the world title soon. When Makhmudov entered as a massive favorite against the undefeated Agit Kabayel last year, a battle in which the huge Russian finally found his match, those sentiments were never more apparent. Early in the battle, Makhmudov attempted to steamroll Kabayel by throwing massive hooks and uppercuts at the smaller guy, but to no effect since Kabayel was too quick for Makhmudov. Kabayel eventually finished Makhmudov in the body with some powerful blows delivered downwards.
