Naoya Inoue vs TJ Doheny Fight Preview
On Tuesday, September 3rd, in Tokyo, Japan’s undefeated and undisputed Super Bantamweight Champion Naoya Inoue will defend his titles against the former IBF Champion TJ Doheny of Ireland. Keep reading more articles like this for the most in-depth boxing analysis out there.
TJ Doheny Analysis: Experience is on his side
TJ Doheny, an Irishman by birth, is 37 years old and has fought in several fights in Japan, three of which have ended in knockouts. After stopping Ryosuke Iwasa in New York in 2019, TJ Doheny captured the IBF super bantamweight title. Later that year, he lost his IBF gold title to Daniel Roman, and therefore lost the bid to unify the belts. The Southpaw’s most recent defeat came in a 2023 matchup with Sam Goodman. He has won his last three fights. Doheny is a formidable opponent because he is 37 years old and this is probably his final chance to win a world title.
Naoya Inoue Analysis: Hasn’t lost a fight yet
The boxing enigma is the former Asian youth champion. Naoye Inoue, 31, is one of three male boxers to achieve undisputed status in two weight classes during the “four-belt era,” together with Oleksandr Usyk and Terrence Crawford. “Monster” has won 27 bouts via knockout, using his strength and precision more in world title matches, when his knockout to win ratio is 90.90. Naoye Inoue is said to have signed a professional contract in 2012, during which he requested not to be matched up against opponents that were easy. The bantamweight titles were unified in 2022 when Naoye Inoue defeated Paul Butler. Then, in order to assert the uncontested status, he halted Marlon Tapales and Stephen Fulton. The Ring and ESPN named Inoue the 2023 Fighter of the Year. He also rose to the top of the global rankings, pound for pound, in 2022.
