Prediction and Analysis: Niyomtrong vs Winwood September 07, 2024

Niyomtrong vs Winwood Fight Preview

Alex Winwood will face Thammanoon Niyomtrong, the WBA Minimum-Weight Champion, on Saturday at Perth, Australia’s HBF Stadium. Keep reading more articles like this for the most in depth boxing analysis out there.

Thammanoon Niyomtrong Analysis: He’s defended his title eleven times in his career

Niyomtrong is no easy opponent. With a 24-0 record that includes nine stoppage victories, he is unbeaten. Since gaining the title in 2016, he has made eleven title defenses. He defeated Chayaphon Moonsri in 2022, but that was the last time he boxed. The 33-year-old Thai fighter from Surin has successfully defended the WBA “Super” title eleven times. The WBA “Regular” title holder Erick Rosa was then required to face Niyomtrong. Due to visa concerns, the matter resulted in the cancellation of the March 2023 meeting and two purse bids that were called separately. In the end, Rosa gained weight earlier this year.

Alex Winwood Analysis: He’s 4 fights and never lost

In an attempt to become the fastest Australian man to win a boxing world title, Alex Winwood has compared himself to a cross between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. At Perth’s HBF Stadium on Saturday night, Winwood—who has a 4-0 professional record—will take on Thammanoon Niyomtrong, the world champion at the minimum weight division of the WBA. In only his fifth professional fight, Winwood would surpass Jeff Fenech’s seven-bout victory lap that earned him the 1985 IBF world bantamweight title. When Winwood first competed at junior flyweight, he won a West Australian title. The 27-year-old Winwood would then swiftly move from a state championship to the world arena, winning the junior flyweight and strawweight division titles in just three fights, respectively, under the WBC International title.
