Shakur Stevenson vs Artem Harutyunyan Fight Preview
At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night, German fighter Artem Harutyunyan, who was born in Armenia, will challenge Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title. Continue reading more articles like this for the most in depth boxing analysis out there.
Shakur Stevenson Analysis: He’s undefeated in his pro career
The 21-0 boxer has already defeated opponents who are strong favorites to defeat Harutyunyan on multiple occasions and has won world titles in three different weight classes. Notable boxers who have lost to the slick southpaw include Edwin De Los Santos, Oscar Valdez, Robson Conceição, and Jamal Herring. Despite having 11 knockouts on his record, Stevenson is a master boxer and will most likely try to defeat Harutyunyan inside the 12-round format. He hasn’t been involved in any significant fights, but everything appears to be going well for him. For instance, Jervonta Davis and Vasyl Lomachenko are still in the division, but Shakur must contend with Artem Harutyunyan.
Artem Harutyunyan Analysis: He has defended his titles
Before going pro and compiling a flawless 12-0 record, the 33-year-old won a bronze medal while competing for Germany at the 2016 Olympics. But when he raised his game against Frank Martin in July 2023, he was defeated by the latter in less than 36 minutes. Regretfully, Stevenson is a tier or two superior to Martin and will most likely demonstrate this when they square off in the ring. Hugo Alfredo Santillan was defeated by him on points in June 2019 to win the IBO international light-welterweight title. The 33-year-old German was able to successfully defend that title twice, defeating Miguel Cesario Antin via TKO in the fourth round and Islam Dumanov via majority decision.
