Damian Sosa Analysis: Looking to build up from last fight’s win

Damian “Samurai” Sosa’s amateur career wasn’t very long. But he is the more seasoned fighter of the two, at least in the professional arena, having won his most recent bout by split decision over undefeated prospect Marques Valle.

  • With his stellar 25-2-0 record since going pro in 2016, Sosa has amassed quite the resume. Notably, Sosa lost by unanimous decision to Artem Oganesyan in 2019, marking his first career loss.
  • Last year, he was unable to overcome Ivan Alvarez and was once again given a lower score by the judges.
  • With 25 victories and 12 KOs, he has a 48% knockout percentage.

There is little chance that he will knock out Xander Zayas given that he has only scored one knockout in his last 6 fights. Since Damian Sosa is better renowned for sticking with opponents through tough situations, that may also be his strategy in this situation.

Xander Zayas Analysis: Still undefeated

Zayas had a lengthy amateur career that included over 130 victories before he turned pro in 2019. Among his many national championship victories was the coveted 2018 U.S. Youth National Championships.

  • Finally, Xander Zayas has an excellent record of 19-0-0 and has not lost since being pro, which essentially proves that he is a tough cookie.
  • In June, Zayas won his first main event bout at The Theater when he overcame Patrick Teixeira, the previous interim WBO super welterweight champion, by unanimous decision over ten rounds.

Prior to it, Mexico’s Roberto Valenzuela Jr. and Spain’s Jorge Fortea were easily defeated by Xander Zayas by fifth-round knockouts. Xander Zayas, who is 22 years old, is the younger fighter than Damian Sosa, who is 27 years old, as they get into the ring.
