Game Preview
Real Madrid
Over the previous 13 seasons, Real Madrid has won the championship five times. But in all that time, they have failed to successfully defend their crown. When Real Madrid was eight points ahead of Villarreal in the 2007–08 season, they last won back-to-back titles. They defeated Barcelona in the head-to-head match to win the title a year prior. However, they mean business this time. Kylian Mbappe, a Frenchman, has finally joined Real Madrid, and he will lead their attack. Endrick has also been recruited to their team, strengthening what is already a formidable offensive unit.

Barcelona
Barcelona had an unusual season last year, especially off the field. Xavi declared early in 2024 that he would be leaving Barcelona in the summer, but he also promised to stay with the team. However, the team fired Xavi in the summer and replaced him with Hansi Flick. The only significant addition to the cash-strapped team, who must resolve their off-field problems in order to contend for the title, is Dani Olmo, who Flick will hope to be enough of a boost to get back on top of the table ahead of their rivals.
Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid, the third of the big 3, are never quite as favorites to win the Spanish Top Flight as Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, they’re always fighting head to head with the Spanish giants, and they are almost always included in the title discussion. Not unexpected, given that their two trophies over the past 11 years are the only ones that neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona have won in the previous 20 years. Diego Simeone’s team finished fourth the previous season, 19 points behind champion Girona and behind surprise package. For Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth, Robin Le Normand, and Conor Gallagher, they have blown a lot of cash.
