On Saturday evening, Celta Vigo will face Espanyol at RCDE Stadium with the hope of continuing their unbeaten run of four matches in La Liga. Celta Vigo secured a 3-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in their last match, while Espanyol suffered a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in their last league fixture.
Despite Espanyol taking the lead against Real Madrid last weekend through Joselu’s eighth-minute goal, they conceded three unanswered goals and lost the match. Espanyol is currently in 15th place with 27 points, just one point away from the relegation zone. They finished 14th in La Liga last season and are keen to avoid relegation to the second tier.
Diego Martinez’s side has the second-worst home record in La Liga, having picked up just 13 points from 12 home matches. However, they previously beat Celta Vigo 3-1 in the Copa del Rey in January. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo is in 11th place with 32 points, having won their last two matches against Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano. They are unbeaten in their last four league matches and are only three points away from the top eight.
Espanyol will be without Gori, Keidi Bare, and Adria Pedrosa due to injuries, and Ronael Pierre-Gabriel’s participation will depend on a late fitness check. Celta Vigo’s Oscar Rodriguez is suspended for the match, while Hugo Mallo and Renato Tapia are available after serving bans. However, Oscar Mingueza and Agustin Marchesin remain sidelined due to injuries.
There are not expected to be many changes in the Espanyol team from their last match, while Celta Vigo could field the same side that played against Rayo Vallecano. Haris Seferovic may partner Iago Aspas in the final third of the field.
Stay tuned to find out if Espanyol can pull away from the relegation places or if Celta Vigo can get their second consecutive win and put pressure on the European competition places.
