Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres: Analysis & Predictions 4/03/2023

April 3, 2023

Game Preview

The Diamondbacks started the season strong by splitting their opening series with the Dodgers after placing fourth in the NL West the previous year. Prior to a comeback in the series, the Padres dropped the first two games against the Rockies. In the middle of a crowded NL West, both rivals have another crucial division game this early in the season.

After a heated Spring Training battle, Arizona’s righty Ryne Nelson earned the fifth starting spot. Despite his 1-1 record, Nelson was outstanding in his three appearances last season. In 18.1 innings, he surrendered three runs and struck out 16.

With that and a strong performance in the Grapefruit League, the 25-year-old will begin the season in the starting rotation. He should be very acquainted with the Padres after making two starts against them last season. He was 1-1 against them, allowing three runs in 12.1 innings and striking out ten.

Let’s check the latest MLB news, stats and MLB expert picks for Diamondbacks vs Padres. We’ve plenty of MLB Predictions for you to consider.

The Diamondbacks’ X-factor tonight is centerfielder Corbin Carroll. Before being called up late last year, the 22-year-old was regarded as one of the finest prospects in the MLB. Carroll batted.260 with four home runs in 32 games. The five-tool outfielder has the best chances to win National League Rookie of the Year. He was quiet in their first game, with only three hits in 14 at-bats. Having said that, he has tremendous promise and the clock is ticking on when he will break out.

San Diego must be pleased with Bogaerts’ start to the season, but they still have to wait for Manny Machado and Juan Soto to make their debuts. The first game saw the two players combine for a 5/29, far below their preseason expectations.

Having said that, Machado is coming off what was probably his best season of his career, in which he hit.298 with 32 home runs and 102 RBI. Soto, on the other hand, struggled somewhat last year in comparison to his record 2020 and 2021 seasons. However, the slugger is only 24 years old and has all the skills to return to elite form.
