Fight Preview

The Oakland Athletics will host a three-game series against the Houston Astros at Oakland Coliseum. The A’s come into this series after winning their last game against the Texas Rangers, although they lost 3-1 the four-game series. The Houston Astros arrive at the Oakland Coliseum after losing their three-game series against the Seattle Mariners in a disappointing manner. Today both teams will try to turn things around, especially the A’s who have been struggling throughout the season and find themselves almost at the bottom of the standings.

The Houston Astros will send out Framber Valdez as their starting pitcher. The 28-year-old carries a 4-2 record, a 2.83 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Valdez picked up his latest win against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, after throwing for 100 innings, where he gave 3 runs o 7 hits while striking out 4 of the Guardians batters. Except for one game against the Los Angeles Angels on April 19, Valdez has been able to put up a dominant season so far, and he’ll try to keep his streak going against the Oakland Athletics.

Against the Astros, Paul Blackburn will be on the mound for the A’s. Blackburn holds a 1.70 ERA and a 1.01 over a 5-0 record, which are some impressive numbers. His last appearance was on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners, where he gave up 1 hit and 5 walks over 5 scoreless innings. Blackburn has been performing over the expectations and right now he is looking like the strongest pitcher in the Athletics lineup, which might be just enough to take down the Astros in their first game of the series, which could be huge for them, considering that Houston is currently the 5th-place team of the league.
