Boston Red Sox vs. Atlanta Braves Preview & Predictions 5/11/2022

May 11, 2022

Here’s something baseball fans haven’t heard in a few days; the Boston Red Sox won a game last night! Now, after taking the first game of their short, interleague, two game series against the Braves in Atlanta, the Red Sox will surely be looking to not let that steam go away as they try to score their second win in a row, something that hasn’t happened to Boston in a few days. Atlanta in the meantime needs a win here and they need it badly, not necessarily to shorten the distance between them and the Mets at the top of the NL East division, but to fend off the Miami Marlins who are just half a game behind them in the standings.

Game Preview

Yesterday’s win by the Red Sox was more than necessary for this team, there’s no other way to put it. After being pitted to be one of the best teams in the AL for this season, and then flunking tremendously along the way, it was only a matter of time before something had to change. Now, after yesterday’s 9-4 win against Atlanta, at least for a second it felt like that was the Red Sox team that fans all over have been expecting to see on the field.

Boston’s offense has been lackluster at best, with Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers leading the helm of a batting lineup that many were expecting would be a dominant unit all around and their pitching staff, well, how does one deal with so much firepower but so little boom? For today’s game it will be RHP Nathan Eovaldi, who will be looking not only to get his second win of the season, but also looking to get Boston on a much-needed winning streak. If Boston’s offense shows up to play today as they did yesterday, they should be able to put up a great fight against Atlanta. If they don’t though, it will be one tough day at the office for Eovaldi.

The Braves, who have won three of their last five games, and with Ronald Acuña Jr. finally back in their lineup should seriously be looking into taking Boston down today, especially if they wish to continue keeping the Marlins at a safe distance in the NL East race. Now with Acuña Jr. back in the mix and with guys like Matt Olson, Austin Riley and Travis d’Arnaud, this Braves offense should have no real problems delivering yet another L to the Red Sox if they come in hot today from the get-go.
