Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays: Picks & Analysis 4/26/2022

April 26, 2022

The Toronto Blue Jays, first place in the AL East, will be looking to make it two out of four in their series against the Boston Red Sox tonight, especially after handing the Sox their third straight loss in a row, something that has Boston fans starting to think about hitting the panic button here and there. After routing Boston last night by 6-2, Toronto will be sending RHP Kevin Gausman to go after not just his second win of the season but again, the second win in this four-game series with clear divisional implications for both teams. For Boston it will be RHP Nick Pivetta who will once again try to score his first win of the season after riding on a 0-3 record thus far.

Game Preview

It’s no fluke as to why the Blue Jays are the best team in the AL right now. They have an offense led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the helm, one of the most polarizing players in baseball in these days, all of their general numbers on offense give testament to how good and consistent this team is when at bat and their pitching core continues to show up and show out, all while still showing that their bar is far from being reached and overturned. The Blue Jays have won 5 of their last six games, only dropping a game against Houston on Sunday and they look like they don’t really have any plans of letting the top spot of the AL East get away from them any time soon.

As they send pitcher Kevin Gausman tonight to face the Red Sox in the second game of their series, Boston should really take into consideration that Gausman leads Toronto in strikeouts for the season, meaning that if Toronto’s pitcher comes in hot and firing on all cylinders, Boston’s batting order could be in for a long and stressing night.

For the Red Sox, to say the season isn’t exactly going how they were expecting would be shredding lightly. Just like the Blue Jays have won five of their last six games, Boston has lost five of their last six, including losing two out of three in their series at home in Fenway against the team they’ll be facing tonight. While if you were to go up and down through Boston’s roster you would find a slew of some of the best players in the American League, something is not clicking right for the Sox and it’s starting to show. Pitcher Nick Pivetta will have a very hard time against a Blue Jays team that’s riding a hot streak, which means that only Boston’s best version will truly have a shot to beat Toronto tonight.
