Today, the Chicago Cubs wrap up their three-game series with the New York Mets in Queens. After briefly falling behind the Braves for a day, the Mets have regrouped and have a one-and-a-half game lead heading into last night’s game. On Monday night, the Mets lost 5-2 for their first loss in eight starts by Chris Bassitt.
The Mets are just 5-5 in their last ten games but have had the good fortune of a surprising three-game losing streak from the Braves to hang on to first place in the NL East. New York is just one game in front of the Braves in the loss column with just twenty games left in the season.
New York will be sending David Peterson to the mound today. In his last five starts, Peterson is 2-2 with a 3.24 ERA while throwing 25 innings and giving up 28 hits. Chicago will reply back with Drew Smyly, who has five quality starts this season among his 20 starts. In his last five starts, Smyly has a solid 3.25 ERA despite just a 1-2 record.
