Game Preview

The Cincinnati Reds will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 7-6 defeat against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park yesterday. The Reds opened the series with a 4-1 loss, which didn’t give them much confidence as they headed into Tuesday’s encounter. On the other hand, Philadelphia has won 3 of its last 4 games during a very important part of its schedule.

Philadelphia struggled in its first few games back from the All-Star break, losing four of its first five games. The Phillies proceeded to win 12 of their next 13 games, getting themselves back in a playoff position. They immediately went through another rough patch, though, dropping seven of their next 10 games. Philadelphia is off to a nice start in this series, winning each of the first two games.

The Reds put together a solid stretch after they returned from the All-Star break, winning 10 games in a 16-game stretch. Cincinnati has lost 10 of their last 14 games, though. They took two out of three in a series against Pittsburgh last weekend before dropping the first two games of this series. Cincinnati held a 3-0 lead in the early stages on Tuesday and also held a 6-5 lead in the ninth inning, but it allowed a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Graham Ashcraft was originally going to be on the mound for the Cincinnati Reds today, but he was placed on the injured list on Tuesday. T.J. Zeuch will take his place, who holds a 0-2 record with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP over 8 innings pitched across 2 starts. Cincinnati replies back with Christopher Sanchez, who is making his 11th appearance and 3rd start of the season. Sanchze holds a 1-1 record with a 3.80 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 23.2 innings pitched while striking out 18.
