Game Preview

The Colorado Rockies take a trip to Miami where they’ll start their three-game series against the Marlins at LoanDepot Park. The Rockies come off a recent sweep against the San Diego Padres, which was quite unexpected considering that the Padres are looking way hotter than Colorado.

On the other hand, the Marlins lost four games in a row against the New York Mets at Citi Field. For today’s game we’ll have a very exciting matchup in the pitching department as two relatively raw arms go head-to-head.

Daniel Castano will be opening things up for the Miami Marlins, making his 2nd start of the season and 5th appearance overall. While he has yet to pick up a win, Castano impressed in his first start last week against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 27-year-old lefty covered 6.2 scoreless innings while giving away 5 hits and 2 walks, though the game ended in a 3-1 loss for the Marlins. One of the most important things to consider is that no Rockies batter has previously faced Castano and this will be his first appearance against the Rockies.

On the other side, the Colorado Rockies will send out Ryan Feltner as their starting pitcher for the 6th time this season. He is holding a 1-2 record with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 26 innings pitched. The last time we saw Feltner on the mound was against the San Diego Padres, when he allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk over 6 innings.

Feltner’s single win was a 7-1 victory over the Marlins on May 30. He threw 7 innings and gave away 4 hits while striking out 6 and allowing 1 run for a 1.29 ERA, which should make him somewhat comfortable for today’s game.
