Today, after getting swept by the New York Yankees, the 10-game road trip for the New York Mets finally comes to an end with the team returning to Citi Field to take on the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies split even in a two-game meeting with the Texas Rangers, including a 16-4 blowout loss in the finale. They’ll try to get a game back in the win column as the season is coming to an end very soon.
For the Rockies, it’s usually offense-or-bust. Well, they eventually got their offense going on Thursday in a game where they scored seven runs in the later innings, and it still wasn’t enough for them to come away with the victory. They once again showed why they have the worst run-scoring defense in the league by melting down for a 16-run allowance in their home building. If they couldn’t stop the Texas Rangers at the plate at Coors Field, they’re going to be in for a challenge against the Mets at Citi Field.
The Mets are averaging 8.75 hits and 4.75 runs per game this season. So they clearly have the firepower to give a little deja vu for the Rockies’ previous game against the Rangers. Colorado’s offensive magic seems to only work for the Rockies when they’re on the road, which should be very concerning for all the Rockies fans out there, especially against a team like the Mets.
Ryan Feltner will try to keep the Rockies hopes alive when he makes his 12th start of the season today. Feltner holds a 2-4 record with a 5.88 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 56.2 innings pitched while striking out 49. The New York Mets reply back with Jacob DeGrom who is still settling into things since returning to the mound, making his 5th start of the season. The 34-year-old carries a 2-1 record with a 2.31 ERA and a 0.51 WHIP over 23.1 innings pitched while striking out 37.
