The Los Angeles Angels should really start to watch their backs because all signs point towards the Houston Astros finally waking up and deciding to start playing some serious and good baseball. The Astros, who are riding on a solid 3-game win streak will be looking to make it four games in the start of their four-game series against a Detroit Tigers team that continues to show minimal signs of good baseball here and there.
For the Astros the task of scoring that fourth win in a row to start the series against the Tigers at home in the strongest way possible will be up to RHP Jose Urquidy, while for the Tigers, who would love nothing more than a win on the road today to try and revert their reality, it will be LHP Tarik Skubal who will try to score his second win of the season
This whole season has felt like a waiting game to see when the Astros would wake up and start reminding everyone just how good they really are and well, they started doing that just recently, especially after sweeping their divisional rivals Mariners in their last series before playing hosts to the Tigers starting today.
After a three-game sweep of Seattle which included a great showing from pitching all-star Justin Verlander yesterday, all signs point towards a whole new beginning in Astros baseball for the season, which means only one thing, everyone in the AL West should start getting ready for what’s to come, especially the divisional leaders Los Angeles Angels.
Throughout the series against the Mariners, one thing that truly stood out is that Houston’s batting order started getting hot, finally, which automatically made the team rise up to the occasion and take over as they have done before in their usual winning ways. Now, today, as they face a Tigers team that doesn’t really scare anybody, it will be on pitcher Jose Urquidy to take the helm and continue on with the great work the rotation has done of lately, because the offense will surely once again come out swinging today.
The Detroit Tigers are one of those teams who are an enigma within themselves. Sometimes they play some decent baseball, other times they get beat by the Pirates like yesterday, without being able to truly show any real skills. With Detroit this season it’s becoming more and more apparent that you don’t know what you’ll be getting so it’s best to just buckle up and go for the ride. With that said though, beating the Astros tonight, while a possibility, feels more like a longshot, not just because of how Houston is playing but because of how inconsistent Detroit continues to be this season, which ultimately will continue to hurt them down the line.
