Detroit Tigers vs San Francisco Giants: Odds & Analysis 6/28/2022

Game Preview

The San Francisco Giants will host the Detroit Tigers for the first game of a two-game series at Oracle Park. This season, the Detroit Tigers haven’t looked that great and struggled against every single one of their opponents. They are 28-44 overall and 4-6 in their last 10. Javier Baez has been the ray of the light keeping the Tigers’ hopes alive as he is hit .400 with three home runs and seven runs batted in during their last 7 games.

On the other side, the San Francisco Giants are on a 39-33 overall record and just one game out of the final Wild Card spot. When it comes to hitting, Joc Pederson is having a blast, batting .273 with 17 home runs and 39 RBI. The Giants are looking good, but they still need to switch some things around if they want to secure a Wild Card spot.

Tarik Skubal will be the starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, making his 15th start of the season. The 25-year-old lefty is holding a 5-5 record with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 79.1 innings pitched. Skubal picked up his 5th loss on Wednesday, when he gave up 6 runs on 6 hits across 4.2 frames while striking out 5 against the Boston Red Sox.

To open things up, the San Francisco Giants will send out Carlos Rodón. We’ve seen Rodon start 14 times and he is carrying a 6-4 record with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over 80 innings pitched. He was last seen on the mound on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. The 29-year-old lefty allowed only 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk over 7 innings. Rodón is 5th on the major rankings with 101 punchouts this season. Rodón is looking like the perfect option against the Tigers, a team that isn’t looking that good, and to be honest, the Giants can’t afford to lose against a team like them.
