Gunnar Henderson

Henderson is really slamming the bat right now. With 12 home runs so far, he is tied for 2nd place in all of baseball. He lags Kyle Tucker, who has thirteen, and is tied with Marcell Ozuna. One may categorically describe the power surge as unexpected. Henderson was predicted by most systems to hit between 20 and 25 home runs this season. With just 40 games played, he is halfway there. Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani is smashing the ball. He is tied for 4th in home runs (11) and tied for 7th in RBI (27), while he leads the National League in batting average (.3520). It’s May, after all, and there’s still a lot of baseball to be played, but it seems sensible to think Ohtani can be in the running for the award for the rest of the season. With a commanding lead in the National League West, the Dodgers are coasting. Even though they lost two out of three games to the annoying Padres over the weekend, they still lead the National League West by five and a half games at 27-15.

Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso is on a 3-game hitting streak and is 8/21 with four runs batted in over the last six games. Despite having a team-high 9 home runs going into the game, Alonso’s season average is just .230. Recently, Brandon Nimmo has also been hitting for extra base, going 3/19 with three home runs in his last six games. The Mets have dropped two of their last 3 series due to their poor play over the past week.
