Game Preview

The Houston Astros will meet the Oakland Athletics for a second time in their three-game series at RingCentral Coliseum. The Astros came out on top in yesterday’s game, where Framber Valdez threw 93 pitches through eight innings and only allowed 1 run on 2 hits, both of which came in the sixth inning, and 3 walks. The Oakland Athletics have scored 11 runs in their last 3 games and 4 or more runs in 6 of their last 8 games. Sheldon Neuse will have to put up an amazing performance if he wants to carry the A’s into a victory in this second game of the series.

The Oakland Athletics will send out Frankie Montas as their starting pitcher, who is currently holding a 3.28 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP over a 2-4 record. The 29-years-old right-handed pitcher was last seen on Thursday, when he threw against the Texas Rangers and allowed a run on 3 hits and 2 walks, the game ended up in a defeat for the A’s. Despite his good-looking numbers, Montas has lost each of his eight turns except for his two wins. He’s pitched for a total of 57 innings this season and he is still looking to prove that he is worthy of being a notable pitcher.

Christian Javier will be the starting pitcher trying to score the 2nd victory for the Houston Astros. Javier has a 2.43 ERA and a 0.97 with a 3-2 record, which might be more than enough to take down the A’s. We last saw the 25-year-old pitch against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, when he threw 5⅔ scoreless innings and allowed 3 hits and 1 out, while striking out 9 of the Guardians batters. It’s safe to say that Christian Javier will remain on the main Astros’ rotation even after Jake Odorizzi returns to the field.
