Houston Astros vs Texas Rangers: Predictions & Preview 4/25/2022

April 25, 2022

It’s an all Texas, AL West showdown as the Texas Rangers prepare to play host for the always entertaining, even though they’re still somewhat hated, Houston Astros in the first of their four-game series that will see them play through until Thursday. While both teams have very productive off seasons which lead fans to believe that better versions of both squads were on the way, as of now the Astros are the only ones kind of carrying their own weight, even if they sit fourth in their division, only followed by the last place Rangers. For Texas, RHP Dane Dunning will be taking the starting role, hoping to score his first win of the season, while for the Astros it will be LHP Framber Valdez who will be looking to score a very important divisional W for Houston.

Game Preview

It’s hard to understand how a team like the Rangers, who went out in the off season and made some serious moves like bringing in players such as Corey Seager, Kole Calhoun, Marcus Semien and starting pitcher Jon Gray has been doing so poorly this season. Yet that is the reality for the Rangers, a team that looks like they’re more into building form instead of a win fast and win now mentality.

Their hitting has been lowly at best and their pitching has not really been the shining point for this team too. But, everything’s not lost for Texas, who while having lost their last game, will be coming into the series riding on 3 wins in their last 5 games, nothing too bad for a team who is looking like they’re playing with the future in mind instead of the present.

For the Astros, being able to keep up with their competitors in the AL West is a definite must which is why scoring the first win of their series with Texas today, as well as trying to set the tone and take the series will be of the utmost importance. Houston continues to be a team with big names all over the batting order and with some very good characters in their pitching rotation, but yet everything continues to feel lukewarm for the former World Series champs.

The problem here is that in a division as tough as the AL West, room for breathing and errors don’t come around that often so being able to strike the iron while it’s hot, which would be reversing their current negative record and making their win last night turn into a win streak with a win today would be a great move on their part. It will be all up to pitcher Framber Valdez and Houston’s solid batting order to take down a Rangers team who might not have that much of a fight in them.
