Houston Astros vs Toronto Blue Jays: Analysis & Picks 4/29/2022

April 29, 2022

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to show that they are here to take the AL East by whatever means possible, but they’ll be tasked with stopping a Houston Astros team that continues to pick up more and more steam, especially with their latest 3-game winning streak that they’re riding on right now.

While for Toronto scoring a first win in the series today against the Astros could seriously help in their chase of the New York Yankees in their division, for Houston, they can’t let this streak die, especially with how tight the race for the lead in the AL West is becoming between the Angels, Mariners and themselves, meaning that both teams will surely be coming out with their best guns forward.

Game Preview

After yet another strong showing on the mound from Blue Jays ace Alek Manoah over the Red Sox yesterday, the stage is more than set for Toronto to capitalize on their recent home successes that have seen the team win three of their last four games and go out to score another win at home but this time against Houston.

Even if Toronto’s offense looked like at a stand-still last night against Boston, being held to only one run for their win, that doesn’t mean that the Jays are a team that shies away from strong offensive outings, especially when you take into account the players that form the heaviest part of their batting lineup.

As long as the offense shows up in style today, starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi should have enough of a back up to go out and try to score his first win of the season as he pushes his Toronto Blue Jays over a very strong Houston Astros team that will surely be all about bringing the heat today at the plate.

After losing the first game of their series against their state and division rivals, Texas Rangers, the Houston Astros were quick to get back up and take the remaining three games in the series, outscoring the Rangers 12-6 along the way, proving that all this Houston team needed was some time to truly warm up and get going.

Right fielder Kyle Tucker continues to shine as Houston’s strongest weapon on offense, but with a batting lineup filled to the brim with veteran and new talent, it was only a matter of time before Houston started to get hot in the season. Now it will be on them to continue getting better and scoring wins. On the mound, it will be up to starter Jose Urquidy to give Houston a good outing that could mean a fourth win on the road for Houston in as many games as well as his second win for the season.
