Today we’ll have the 2nd encounter of the potential National League Championship Series coming our way when the New York Mets face the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field in Queens. The Dodgers come in with the best record in all of baseball while the Mets have the second best record in the National League and are battling with Houston for the second-best record in baseball overall. Yesterday, the Dodgers used five pitchers to hold the Mets lineup at bay and squeeze out a 4-3 win.
This year has been great for all the Dodgers fans as their team just keeps rolling along as the season heads into September. They have the best record in baseball and have the best home and road splits in all of baseball. LA came into this series after traveling to Miami over the weekend and taking three out of four games, just missing a sweep with a 2-1 loss on Saturday thanks to a Sandy Alcantara complete-game masterpiece. On Monday, the Dodgers bounced back with a 3-2 win in 10-innings
On the other side, the New York Mets come into this huge series with the second best record in the NL and in baseball overall. New York is as healthy as they’ve been all season and are 6-4 in their last ten games heading into the series. Over the weekend, the Mets won three out of four games from the hapless Rockies, only losing the finale 1-0. Max Scherzer went seven innings and allowed just one run and struck out 11 Rockies in taking the loss.
The Mets will turn to their long-time ace Jacob deGrom on Wednesday night. deGrom has come back brilliantly from an arm issue that sidelined him for much of the season. He has allowed just 14 hits in 25.1 innings of work thus far, though he has yet to face the Dodgers this season. Los Angeles replies with 32-year-old lefty Tyler Anderson. In his last five games, Anderson is 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA. He is 1-0 against the Mets this season, allowing three hits in six scoreless innings in LA.
