Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds: Analysis & Predictions 5/09/2022

May 9, 2022

For a hot second it was starting to seem like seeing the Cincinnati Red win a baseball game this season was a feat as rare as seeing a comet in the middle of the day, but unlike any daylight astrology conundrums, the Reds, who have sadly had to carry with the burden of having the worst record in MLB this season have won a couple of games as of recently.

Now, as they start a three-game series against the NL Central leaders, and one of the best teams in baseball right now, the Milwaukee Brewers, what will be of Cincinnati and their very uphill mission of trying to not win a game here or there every ten losses?

Game Preview

If you are the Cincinnati Reds, any and every win surely must feel like winning the pennant, especially since those wins this season have come by very scarcely. Surely it can’t be that bad, right? When you as a team have lost 21 of the last 24 games you’ve played, the story writes itself.

Still, if we want to see the Reds from an optimistic point of view, the team has won two of their last three games, making their season record come to an astonishing five wins in total. Cincinnati is dead last in all categories when it comes to pitching stats, and their offense is not really doing a stellar job themselves trying to keep the Reds boat afloat, but in baseball, like in life, the last thing one should lose is hope. Yes, even if you are this season’s Reds team.

For today, Cincinnati will be going in a completely different route when it comes to starting pitcher as they will be sending RHP Luis Castillo, who will have his first start of the season after coming back from an injury that had him sidelined for the beginning of the season.

While being at the bottom is the worst place to be at, there’s always a positive which is that the only way afterwards is to go up, so if Luis Castillo can have a strong outing against the Brewers offense, we could be in for a miraculous upset in Cincinnati today.

On the other hand, there’s the Milwaukee Brewers, a team that not only has won four of their last six games, but also are leaders in their division, have one of the more solid batting lineups in the NL and a pitching staff that all other teams would love to have.

The Brewers already know very well how easy it has become to beat Cincinnati, especially since they swept them early last week, scoring 34 runs in three games to Cincinnati’s 12, so all signs point towards for LHP Brandon Woodruff having a rather easy outing today as he goes for his 4th win of the season and Milwaukee’s 20th.
