The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to capitalize on yesterday’s road win against Pittsburgh once again today as they get ready to square up once again in Pirates territory for the second of their three-game divisional series. After taking down Pittsburgh by 12-8 in a very exciting game last night, the Brewers will be counting on LHP Aaron Ashby who has done most of his work this season coming off the bullpen to make it a two game lead in the series, thus opening the possibility of a sweep, while for the Pirates it will be RHP Bryse Wilson who will be taking the reins on the mound to try and lead Pittsburgh to a very favorable home win against their division leaders.
Game Preview
It only feels right that when talking about the Milwaukee Brewers and their performance last night against the Pirates in the opening game of their series, we talk about the night that Brewers shortstop Willy Adames had last night. With a career-high seven RBI’s, including a 4-5 night on the plate with two home runs, Adames was on fire and there was no way to stop him from bringing the heat at every at-bat. But, from a broader perspective, Milwaukee’s offense last night shined together as a unit, something that the team had been missing in a way, even while having a very promising start to the season.
It almost felt like last night’s win on the road was exactly what the Brewers were needing in order to get the ball rolling with their offense, and now, today, as Aaron Ashby will be starting for them, if the Brewers decide to once again turn on the flare offensively, it might be a long affair for the Pirates at home.
Pittsburgh on the other hand has been on a constant up and down journey this season. Their record might not speak volumes to what they’re doing on the field but if one thing is certain is that while this team, who has been deemed by experts as being in a rebuilding mode, is still showing clear signs that there is plenty of fight in them.
Struggle land for the team might just be in how they are taking care of their pitching situation, with their rotation and bullpen all being in the bottom tiers of all the pitching related stats in the season. On offense Pittsburgh has shown that when it’s needed they can bring it, but now it will be up to Bryse Wilson, their starter today and the bullpen to try and lift the team up and over Milwaukee.
