Game Preview
Yesterday the Yankees took the first win of the series after demolishing Chicago in the last innings. Dylan Cease opened up the game for the Sox and he didn’t have a good time, to say the least. He gave Giancarlo Stanton a two-run homer in the very first inning of the match, putting the White Sox in a very uncomfortable position from the get-go.
But other than that, things weren’t that bad for Chicago in the first few innings. In the bottom of the 2nd, White Sox bounced back into the game after Pollock and Garcia secured a total of 3 runs for their team. Now, the game was back-and-forth between these two teams, but things started to go really bad for Chicago in the 8th.
After Joe Kelly gave Judge a two-run single in the top of the 8th, the White Sox went into desperation mode. They switched to Tanner Banks, and he had a hard time closing out the inning. Stanton got a two-run single, making things extremely hard for Chicago, but that wasn’t the end of the world.
The Donaldson high fly ball deep in the left-field that ended up being a three-run homer was the last nail in the coffin. The White Sox now were on a huge deficit and Chad Green had an easy time sealing the deal for the Yankees.
Now Vince Velazquez will open up for the White Sox and on the other side, Gerrit Cole will do it for the Yankees. This might be Chicago’s opportunity to bounce back in the series, but it’s hard to tell just from the starting pitchers. The Yankees are carrying a huge momentum as they are leading the league and are currently on a 4-game win streak.
Although the White Sox were on a good run too, the Guardians put an end to that last week. It was a game that started great for the White Sox with a 4-run lead, but the Guardians struck back in the later innings.
It’s very clear that the White Sox have no issues at all when it comes to getting early leads, but sometimes they really struggle at closing games that were looking like a clear win for them
