San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies Game Preview

The San Francisco Giants, clinging to 3rd place in the NL West after a team record-setting number of wins in 2021, travel to Colorado to take on the last-place Rockies at Coors Field. The Giants head into this series after a home stand matching up against two of the best teams in baseball, the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, The Rockies are in last place in the ultra-competitive NL West Division but remain a tough matchup even with the season coming to a close.

Colorado is particularly tough at home, recently going 4-2 in a six game home stand against the Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Over the weekend, the Rockies were in Wrigley taking on the Cubs. After splitting the first two games, the Rockies pulled out a 4-3 win after building a 4-0 win after two innings and holding on for the win. The Rockies are five games behind the Diamondbacks in the NL West and look assured of a last-place finish this season.

On the other side, the Giants were battling the Dodgers for the NL West Division crown and on their way to a team-record 107 wins and a division title at this time last season. Things have not gone according to plan this season as the Giants platoon system that worked so brilliantly last season has faltered and the team’s dominant pitching of 2021 is a thing of the past. Fortunately for them, they get a break in this series against the last place Rockies as the Giants try to hold onto 3rd place and perhaps even avoid a losing season.

Today, Jakob Junis will be heading to the mound for the San Francisco Giants. Junis is just 0-2 in his last five starts with a tough 5.27 ERA. He has faced the Rockies once this season and had a no decision in six innings of work with a 4.05 ERA. Colorado replies back with Chad Kuhle. Kuhle is 3-3 at home this season with a 4.67 ERA. In his last five games, Kuhle has struggled with an 8.17 ERA and 0-3 record.
