San Francisco Giants vs New York Mets: Preview & Predictions 4/21/2022

April 21, 2022

This matchup has all the fixings of a preview of what we could expect to see in the NL playoffs come October. Both the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants have been playing some very solid baseball this season, which is why it’s no surprise to see them both with two of the most solid records in the National League. As we jump into the last game of this series going down in New York, a very good pitching duel will serve as the perfect backdrop to a series that the Mets are looking to take by 3-1 while the Giants are looking to even out at two wins a piece. For the Mets RHP Carlos Carrasco will be taking the mound while for San Francisco it will be RHP Anthony DeSclafani who will be commanding the pitching action for the west coast squad.

Game Preview

There’s something special about the years in which the San Francisco Giants come out from the start of the season playing their best baseball and that is exactly what’s happening now. While they have stumbled a couple of times, that still hasn’t stopped the west coast team from putting on some great outings allowing them to secure the second spot in their division behind the LA Dodgers. Their starting rotation, led by Carlos Rodon and Logan Webb are doing some great work and on offense Brandon Belt is showing up and showing off every chance he gets, including yesterday in San Francisco’s 5-2 win over New York.

Beating a team as strong and powerful as the Mets is no easy task, but if the Giants were able to pull it off yesterday and in great fashion, why not go for it again today? Their main issues will be getting past Carlos Carrasco’s pitches and safeguarding Anthony DeSclafani against a Mets offense that can become scarily good at any given second.

For the Mets, it’s becoming more and more clear that all favoritism targets in the NL are being pointed towards them. If you consider that while yes, they did lose yesterday, they had already won the first two games of the series and are looking at completing a series win of 3 games to one, there’s no doubting what this team can do when it gets hot. With Eduardo Escobar, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte all in the batting lineup, a good day for this offense could mean a whirlwind of troubles for any opposing defenses and, if the team is able to back Carrasco’s date on the mound with some solid work on offense, then the Mets will be looking better than ever to take the series at home against the Giants.
