Tampa Bay Rays vs Texas Rangers: Predictions & Preview 5/31/2022

Game Preview

Yesterday the Texas Rangers managed to upset the Tampa Bay Rays with a 9-5 win in the first game of their four-game series at Choctaw Stadium. Today the Tampa Bay Rays will try to claim revenge against a Rangers that is looking better and better as the season progresses.

They have won 5 out of their last 6 games and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. On the other hand, although the Tampa Bay Rays are sitting at the top-half of the standings, they have been struggling quite a bit to pick up much-needed wins in the last couple of weeks.

Trying to score the 2nd win for the Texas Rangers, Martin Perez will take on the mound as the starting pitcher. Perez holds a shiny 1.60 ERA and a whopping 0.99 WHIP over a 3-2 record. He didn’t factor into the decision in the Rangers’ 4-1 win over the Oakland Athletics, where he allowed 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out only 6 through 7 innings pitched. It’s strange to see someone who carries numbers as good as him and have a 3-2 record, but hopefully for him he’ll be able to pick up his 4th win of the season.

The Tampa Bay Rays will send out Ryan Yarbrough as their starting pitcher, making this his 5th start of the season. Yarbrough carries a 3.98 ERA and a 1.38, and while he has 1 loss on his record, he still has yet to pick up a single win in this season.

On Thursday, in an impressive manner, he was able to hold the New York Yankees scoreless through 5 innings but struggled during his last frame as he ended up allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 1 walk. If Yarbrough manages to pull up a good performance just like he did against the Yankee during the early parts of the game, we might see the Rays bounce back into the series.
