Toronto Blue Jays vs Houston Astros: Analysis & Preview 4/22/2022

April 22, 2022

Should the Toronto Blue Jays be getting more praise for how they’ve been playing this season thus far? They have immense offensive power in superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and their pitching core continues to improve day in and day out. Well, in sports it’s usually said that in order to be the best you have to be able to beat the best.

Now, while the Houston Astros might not be the best team in their division right now, that still doesn’t take away from the fact that when they wish so, they can become a scarily good team, which is one of the main reasons this Blue Jays vs. Astros series, starting tonight might just become one of the most attractive series for baseball lovers this weekend.

Game Preview

The Toronto Blue Jays have always managed to be a team anyone can get behind. Be it because of their cool uniforms or their offense-driven, exciting baseball, there’s something about the Jays that just clicks with baseball fans in general. Now even more so that they have one of the best, up and coming talents in the game as their main offensive weapon in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. After routing the Red Sox in two of the three games they played this week, the Blue Jays seem more than ready to go down to Houston and show the Astros what’s up.

RHP Ross Stripling will be taking the mound for a Blue Jays team led by Guerrero Jr. as well as former Astros star outfielder George Springer Jr. and 1B Matt Chapman will not be shy about wanting to continue with their winning streak by scoring a commanding win against Houston on the road. Again, while the Astros are not necessarily playing their best baseball right now, it still speaks volumes around the league when a team goes to Houston and comes out as a winner, so if Toronto wants to pull all of the right attention towards them, a win today could definitely shift everything in their favor.

Now, all that sounds great for Toronto, but everything automatically takes a turn for the unknown when the pitcher on the other side is none other than bonafide legend Justin Verlander. Verlander, who has won it all in his career in the majors, will be looking to be the pivotal piece to prevent Houston from going down at home against Toronto.

When it comes to offense and defense, the Astros usually look solid as well, except if you consider their last two games against the LA Angels, where they scored only twice while taking in thirteen runs. So, what should the Astros do here? Hope for a great night from Verlander and try to even it out with some strong moves on offense.
