Game Preview

The St. Louis Cardinals host the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at 7:45pm EDT to start a 2-game series that marks the first time these two teams meet this season. The St. Louis Cardinals come into the series as a slight favorite but with both teams performing well in their respective divisions, it’s not as clear cut as other matchups in today’s card.

The Toronto Blue Jays are currently 22-19 and third in the American League East with an 8-11 record while playing away. The Blue Jays come from a 5-5 record in their last 10 games with a .221 batting average and a 2.28 ERA. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette are some of the players to watch for the Blue Jays as they land in St. Louis. Vladimir has four doubles, seven home runs and 21 RBI while Bo is 10 for 39 with two doubles, three home runs and 7 RBI over the last 10 games. Tim Mayza, Tayler Saucedo and Nate Pearson won’t be in the field tonight as they remain on the injury list.

The St. Louis Cardinals are 23-18 and second in the National League Central with a 10-8 record at home. With the second-best team batting average in the MLB at .256 and a record of 6-4 in the last 10 games, the Cardinals are more than ready to receive Jose Berrios in their home field. Keep an eye out for Paul Goldschmidt with a .342 batting average, 16 doubles, six home runs, 18 walks and 29 RBI to be a menace tonight. Tommy Edman is another player to watch, he is 12 for 41 with a home run and 5 RBI over the past 10 games. The Cardinals won’t have Steven Matz, Dylan Carlson, Jack Flaherty, Tyler O’Neill or Alex Reyes tonight.
