Game Preview

The Miami Marlins are leading their three-game series against the Washington Nationals in a very dominating manner and today they’ll try to close out the series in the best way possible. This season has been a wild ride for the Marlins as they had a very good start and had a 7-game win streak at some point, but things started to go south after their last game against the Mariners where they lost 6 games in a row. If the Marlins want to start climbing a few spots in the standings, they’ll have to start putting up a much more consistent performance.

On the other hand, the Washington Nationals have been struggling since the beginning of the season and it shows on their record, they have won 12 out of their 38 so far, which leaves them with a 0.316 win pct. The San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves are the only ones that have lost their series against the Nationals in this season, every other team has been able to take them down in a fairly convincing manner, which might raise a lot of concerns for their fans.

As their starting pitcher, the Miami Marlins will send out Pablo Lopez, who recently had a solid performance against the Milwaukee Brewers. While the result didn’t end up in a win for the Marlins, Lopez struck out 11 batters while allowing one run on three hits and no walks across seven innings. Now through seven starts, Lopez carries an impressive 1.05 ERA, making it safe to say that he won’t have a hard time against the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals will be using right-handed pitcher Josiah Gray, the 24-year-old player from New Rochelle, New York. He brings a 4.34 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP to the table, which in comparison to Lopez’ numbers, don’t look good at all. In Gray’s last game against the Astros, he allowed six runs on six hits across six innings while striking out five batters and walking two. Almost all the damage the Astros did came in the first inning, and if the same happens against the Marlins, things won’t be looking good for the Nationals early on in the game.
