2022 French Open Women’s Finals: Analysis & Odds 6/03/2022

June 3, 2022

On the one hand you have the No.1 women’s tennis player in the world in Iga Swiatek. On the other hand, you have the next great American women’s tennis star Coco Gauff. What does this all add up to? Yes, one of the best matchups all tennis fans could’ve wanted for the 2022 Roland Garros Women’s Finals match. While for Swiatek, who already won this tournament in 2020, another trip to the finals is something that just feels natural, for the American player Gauff this will be her first ever Grand Slam finals, automatically making this matchup that much more attractive for tennis fans all over. So, who will be leaving Philippe-Chatrier court as the 2022 French Open Women’s Champion?

Finals Preview

Iga Swiatek has been on one of the most dominant winning streaks ever since Venus Williams rode one of the best winning streaks in the history of women’s professional tennis back in 2000. With a 34-game win streak under her belt and after dominating every single instance of this year’s Roland Garros tournament, Swiatek has left absolutely no proof as to why she is the No.1 tennis player in the world right now. Ever since taking over the 1st place in the WTA rankings it could be debated that Swiatek has taken and risen the bar of excellence for all women tennis players around, showing some seriously strong signs of utter dominance every time she plays.

Swiatek has only lost three times during this year and since then has not looked back, rolling over her competition in this year’s French Open, only losing one set in the competition in her match against Qinwen Zhang back in the 4th round of the competition which makes it very easy to see why she is being considered the overwhelming favorite to once again leave Paris as Roland Garros champion on Saturday.

For Georgia native Coco Gauff her rise to tennis stardom has been all kinds of great. Her road in this year’s French Open has been one riddled with dominance as well, not losing any sets on her way to the finals. Although in their last two encounters Swiatek has come out victorious twice, with Gauff not even being able to win even one set, the feelings around the American tennis star are different this time.

While it’s understood that she will be entering this matchup as the underdog, counting her out would be a very big mistake, especially taking into account that we could be looking at the next great women’s tennis rivalry for years to come between the overall best women’s tennis player in the world right now and the most important, young talent in the circuit in actuality.
