US Open Preview
The 2022 U.S. Open is set to take place on Aug. 29, 2022. The event is held annually at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, New York and it has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. Let’s take a look at the US Open odds, with familiar faces on top of the board for another major.
Iga Swiatek (+275), who is the #1 ranked player in the world leads the way tops the odds board. At just 21 years of age, Swiatek is already a two-time Grand Slam winner, including capturing yet another French Open Championship this season. Oddsmakers believe this is the year the Polish sensation captures her first US Open title.
Sliding into the second spot is the Romanian player Simona Halep (+650), who increased her odds significantly after a stellar run to the Wimbledon semifinal. The seventh-ranked player showed she still has plenty left in the tank and will look to go on another big run again.
Elena Rybakina (+1100) is rounding out the top 3, the Russian-born Kazakhstani who is coming off a 2022 Wimbledon championship. The 23-year-old hasn’t had much success during hard-court season, but did make it to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open. Rybakina will look to capture that magic she found at Wimbledon and bring it next week.
Right behind Rybakina, we can see the 24-year-old Japanese player Naomi Osaka (+1200). Even though Osaka is one the greatest players of all time, she recently suffered a disappointing first-round exit at the Western & Southern Open with a 6-4 7-5 defeat to Zhang Shuai. While her results over the US Open Series haven’t stood out on paper, there have been signs that a deep run could be coming, which is why the expectations surrounding her are still high.
