The Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks are both ranked eighth in their respective conferences, and they will face on Wednesday night in Minneapolis. The Timberwolves have been a roller coaster for the majority of the season, but they appear to be playing better against stiffer competition.
After dropping three straight games, the Timberwolves rebounded with a big road win over the Knicks on Monday night. They came back late and scored 140 points against one of the league’s finest defenses. The big question will be whether Edwards and/or Karl-Anthony Towns return.
Despite the fact that the Timberwolves are playing on an island, there is a lot of hope that they will both return. They’ll be on the road for the next three games. To be honest, they need this win tonight because their next three games are against the Warriors, Kings, and Suns. Following this game, they will face a difficult test.
The Hawks, on the other hand, are coming off a 26-point victory over the Pistons on Tuesday. Granted, it was the Pistons, but they won big despite the absence of Dejounte Murray, who was ruled out due to illness.
It may be difficult for the Hawks to catch the Heat in the Eastern Conference standings, but they must continue to win in order to compete with the Raptors and Bulls for a potential play-in tournament game. Six of the Hawks’ last eight road games have ended in defeat, including crushing defeats to the Hornets and Spurs.
The Hawks appear to follow Trae Young, who hasn’t been great on the road. This season, the budding superstar is averaging 3.1 points per game less on the road than at home, and he is shooting just 43.4% from the field overall. On the plus side, he is averaging a career-high 10 assists per game, thus playing with Murray has significantly increased his output.
Murray is uncertain after missing Tuesday’s game, but the Hawks appear to be performing similarly without him. When he sits, they go 3-3 and, shockingly, score more points per game. Having Murray back would be beneficial, especially since the Timberwolves can use Jaden McDaniels to slow Young down.
