Boston will be facing Cleveland on Monday night in their third game in four days, with their most recent game being against New York on Sunday night. Cleveland has won two of their last three games, with their most recent victory being a blowout against Detroit.
Boston played against New York on Sunday night and will be on the second night of a back-to-back on Monday after hosting them. They have won nine of their last eleven games, but have lost two of their last three games, including their recent game against Brooklyn. The upcoming game will be a rematch of the game played last Wednesday where Boston won 117-113, led by Jayson Tatum’s 41-point performance. However, they were not able to continue their momentum and suffered an upset loss to Brooklyn on Friday.
Boston is competing for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, currently trailing Milwaukee by half a game. They are also comfortably ahead of Philadelphia and New York in the Atlantic Division. However, they will be missing Robert Williams who is set to be out for 7-10 days, and Cleveland’s Malcolm Brogdon is questionable for the game due to an ankle injury. Boston has the fourth-highest scoring offense in the league, averaging 117.5 points per game, but will face a tough challenge against Cleveland’s top-ranked defense which allows only 106.4 points per game.
Cleveland had a seven-game winning streak before the All-Star break, but lost four of their next five games, including a loss to Boston last Wednesday. However, they bounced back with a dominant victory over Detroit on Saturday, led by Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, and Evan Mobley. Mitchell is expected to play against Boston despite spraining his finger in the previous game. Cleveland is currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing Philadelphia by two and a half games and leading New York by 1.5 games. They rely heavily on their defense, which is ranked first in the league, as their offense ranks 26th in scoring with an average of 112.0 points per game. Cleveland’s offense is led by Mitchell with an average of 27.4 points and 4.8 assists per game, followed by Garland with 22.0 points and 7.9 assists per game, and Mobley with 15.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. They will face a tough challenge against Boston’s eighth-ranked defense, which allows an average of 112.1 points per game.
