On Thursday night at American Airlines Center, the scorching-hot Dallas Mavericks host the slightly less not-so-hot Boston Celtics. When these two teams faced off earlier this year, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics won, and there was a lot of online discussion over whether Luka Doncic or Tatum was the better player.
The Celtics are in an intriguing situation right now. They are in their worst stretch of the season, having lost two straight games and seven of their last twelve, despite having arguably the finest health they have had all season as the only player to miss the most recent contest was Danilo Gallinari, who will be sidelined for the whole campaign.

You don’t need me to tell you how incredible Luka Doncic has been this season, but we can focus on one aspect of his game. Doncic is comfortably leading the league in isolation points per game this season with an average of 9.0, which is arguably the least shocking news you’ve heard all day.
Only James Harden, who averages 8.1, even comes close. Embiid is at 6.9, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is at 6.2. Nobody else exceeds 6.0. In fact, Doncic scored nine points, surpassing the average of every team bar four. But Doncic uses it frequently and is effective with it, scoring 1.16 points on average per isolated play, which is far more than the league average.
