Game Preview

The Miami Heat, No. 1 seed, and the Boston Celtics, No. 2 seed collide in what is expected to be an epic series. Miami have prevailed in six straight Eastern Conference finals appearances. On the other hand, Boston lost in its last four attempts to win the banner.

Led by Jimmy Butler, who’s averaging 28.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game, Miami eliminated the Atlanta Hawks (4-1) and Philadelphia 76ers (4-2). The Heat remain undefeated when playing at home.

As for Boston, Jason Tatum is averaging 28.8 points, 6.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. The Celtics swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first-round. Most recently, they eliminated the reigning champions Milwaukee Bucks (4-3).

During the regular season, these two collided three times. Boston won the first two, including a 95-78 victory at FTX Arena. Eventually, Miami took revenge with a 106-98 at TD Garden.

“We were the two best teams in the East most of the season and it’s fitting that we’re moving into the conference finals. If both teams are really on top of their games, this should be a series where neither team is scoring 130 points,” Miami’s head coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Well, he’s not wrong, but that doesn’t mean the total won’t go over. In fact, the total has gone over in seven of Miami’s last 10 games against Boston. For Game 1, at FTX Arena, the total is set at 204 points.

As expected, the Heat (-1½) come in as the slight NBA Betting favorites. They’re 9-0 straight up in their last nine games at home. Plus, they’re 13-5 against the spread in their last 18 games. Miami will be without Kyle Lowry, while P.J. Tucker, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent and Caleb Martin are all questionable.

Marcus Smart is the only player listed on Boston’s injury report; he’s questionable. Robert Williams III will be available after missing the last four games. Keep in mind that, no matter who plays, the Celtics are 9-0 against the spread in their last nine games.
