After Jordan, Pippen and Rodman left the Bulls following their final championship, the Bulls entered a long and grueling rebuild that they still found themselves heading into last season. The signings of DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso last offseason made Chicago take a huge step forward and make the playoffs after a 46-36 record for the first time since 2017. There’s definitely a lot to like about the Bulls’ organization right now and their recent offseason moves could set them up for a very successful 2022/23 season.
Heading into the NBA Draft 2022, the Bulls had the right to just one first-round pick, number 18 overall. Dalen Terry, from Arizona, was Chicago’s pick. He’s just 20 years old coming in at 6’7 at the point guard position. The Bulls’ biggest task for the 2022 offseason was trying to re-sign All-Star Zach LaVine, which they were able to do for the next 5 years, as well as Derrick Jones Jr for 2 years. Also, the Bulls acquired Andre Drummond and Goran Dragic, both veterans on the back-halves of their career that can provide Chicago with the playoff experience and depth they need.
Heading south to Miami, Heat lost 4 players: Markieff Morris, Mychal Mulder, Javonte Smart and P.J. Tucker. However, they were able to re-sign Dewayne Dedmon, Udonis Haslem, Tyler Herro, Caleb Martin, and Victor Oladipo, this last one considered the best move of Miami’s offseason. The Heat acquired Serbian Nikola Jovic, drafted as number 27th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Tucker’s trade to conference foe Sixers is considered a bad move for Miami, even if Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo’s continuing improvement could make up for Tucker’s loss, Miami would still be lacking his leadership and championship experience.
Bulls and Heat have faced off 9 times in the last 3 seasons, with a very uneven record. The Heat have won 8 games and the Bulls just 1, however, this season things look a lot better for Chicago, not only because of their good offseason, but their constant squad.
