Luka Doncic (33 points, 13 rebounds) and Jalen Brunson (24 points) had an amazing performance in Game 5, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 102-77 victory over the Utah Jazz. Now, the Mavs are only one victory away from advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals.
“I think our defense was amazing, the energy was high and we played hard. That’s the way we’ve got to play, and that’s how we win the next game,” Doncic said.
He’s not wrong. Only Jordan Clarkson (20) and Rudy Gobert (17) scored 10+ points for Utah. Donovan Mitchell was limited to nine points. To be fair, he was dealing with a leg injury, but he still played 32 minutes. No need to panic. Mitchell himself said he’ll be ready for tonight’s game.
With or without Mitchell, the Jazz can’t throw 3-for-30 from the three-point line. That was the main reason for the blowout and the least-accurate performance in NBA postseason history.
The Jazz expect to bounce back in Game 6 at Vivint Smart Home Arena, where they own a 30-13 record. According to the NBA odds (point spread at pk-110) you can expect a very close contest.
Recently, Dallas has suffered a lot when visiting Utah. The Mavs are 2-12 straight up in their last 14 games when playing on the road against the Jazz. However, they’re 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine games played in April. Most importantly, it seems like Doncic is now at 100 percent.
Dallas is looking to get past the first round for the first time since winning the NBA championship in 2011. The winner of this series will face the Phoenix Suns/New Orleans Pelicans in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Keep in mind that Tim Hardaway Jr. remains out for Dallas, while Udoka Azubuike and Trent Forrest remain out for Phoenix.
