The Utah Jazz took advantage of Luka Doncic’s absence to snaggle home-court advantage from the Dallas Mavericks. However, Jalen Brunson went off in Game 2 and led the Mavs to a surprising 110-104 victory. That means the first-round NBA Playoffs series moves to Salt Lake City 1-1.
Brunson, who finished with 41 points, shot 60% from the floor. He was backed by Maxi Kleber, who collected 25 points and six rebounds. Spencer Dinwiddie, Doncic’s replacement in the starting lineup, ended up with 17 points.
Once again, Donovan Mitchell led Utah’s efforts with 34 points. Rudy Gobert only scored eight points but finished with 13 defensive rebounds and two blocks. The big fella wanted to send a message after losing the Defensive Player of the Year award to Marcus Smart.
Regarding Game 3, the Jazz have been considerably better when playing at home, where they own a 29-12 record. In fact, they’re 14-2 straight up in their last 16 games at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Those numbers were the main reason for Mitchell’s calm reaction after Game 2.
“We are not going to overreact. We’ve gotta go home and we’ve got to take care of business — simple as that,” said the 3x NBA All-Star.
Trent Forrest was expected to return. However, he suffered a setback and has been downgraded to out.
Now, the big question: will Luka Doncic play? Well, officially, he’s listed as questionable.
“I don’t know if I’m going to be 100 percent. I think that’s tough right now. But if I’m ready and there’s no risk … I’ll be out there,” Doncic said.
Of course, Doncic playing would make a huge difference, but Utah would remain the NBA Betting favorite. Right now, the home side is offering a -300 price in the Moneyline, while the Point Spread is set at seven. Utah is 3-9-1 against the spread in its last 13 games.
