Game Preview

Led by a monster performance from Nikola Jokic (37 points, eight rebounds, six assists), the Denver Nuggets won Game 4 (126-121) of the NBA Playoffs first-round series to avoid the sweep against the Golden State Warriors. Monte Morris added 24 points, while Aaron Gordon added 21.

“Obviously of all teams in the playoffs, we are probably most comfortable being down 3-1. Can I say … we have them right where we want them? No. But we are alive. We live to fight another day,” coach Michael Malone said.

That another day is Game 5, scheduled for tonight at Chase Center, where Golden State owns a 33-10 record.

Speaking of Golden State, Steph Curry could return to the starting lineup. Curry hasn’t started in any of the previous games. Even so, he averages 27.5 points in 28.3 minutes off the bench. He recently recovered from a foot injury, so Jordan Poole has been the starting point guard.

Poole hasn’t done a bad job. However, he suffered a lot in Game 4 with Aaron Gordon guarding him. He finished with 11 points after a 3-of-10 shooting performance.

“That’s to be expected at this point. Jordan has made a name for himself around the league. He’s played so well, teams are going to start throwing a lot of stuff at him, including physicality, and trying to get under his skin,” coach Steve Kerr said.

As expected, the Warriors dominate the NBA odds. They’re favorites by nine points (-110), while their Moneyline is -420. Nine points could be considered a lot, but Golden State won Game 1 by 16 and Game. 2 by 20. Plus, they’re 5-0 against the spread in their last five games at home.

For Denver, it’s very simple: go big or go home. The Nuggets are 13-19 when playing as the underdogs and 2-5 in their last seven games played in April.
