The Denver Nuggets will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak when they take a trip to Portland, where they’ll face off against the Trail Blazers on Thursday night. Denver had rattled off four straight victories at the end of November, but now they have gone winless throughout their first three games this month. Meanwhile, Portland has won two consecutive matches, including a 116-100 win over Indiana.
Denver got off to an amazing start this season, winning 8 of its first 11 matches. The Nuggets then went through some difficult times, losing 4 of their next 6 games to finish up holding a 10-7 record overall. They managed to come back with a four-game winning streak by the end of November, beating the Thunder, Clippers and the Rockets twice.
Unfortunately for them, that momentum has been put to a stop to kick off December, as they have lost three straight matches to Atlanta, New Orleans and Dallas. Denver was unable to overcome a go-ahead 3-pointer that Dallas scored with 17 seconds remaining on Tuesday, as Nikola Jokic disappointingly missed his first of two free throws.
Similarly to Denver, Portland got off to a great start to the season as well, picking up 9 of its first 12 games. Then the Trail Blazers went cold after that, dropping 7 of their next 8 matches. Their single win during that stretch came in an OT on the road against New York.
Since then, they managed to come back from that cold stretch with a couple of wins over Utah and Indiana. Portland scored exactly 116 points in both of those games, achieving an upset as the underdogs against the Jazz and beating the Pacers as the favorites in the following game. Portland has struggled against Northwest Division foes, winning only 2 of their last 17 contests.
These two teams are trending in opposite directions heading into this week, opening up, Portland being the one going upwards. Fortunately for them, the Trail Blazers now have a healthy roster with Lillard back on the court, while Denver has dropped three games in a row, allowing at least 116 points in all of those games.
